Norwegian Police Recruitment Requirement

The Norwegian police academy has long sought to increase diversity among the student body and the future police.

 For since 2012, they have been working systematically with recruitment to achieve this.

  1. To join the Norwegian police as an officer, you will need three years of education (a bachelors degree) at the Norwegian Police Academy.
  2. Citizenship is required for admission
  3. Having No police record, completed upper secondary school, and passing physical requirements.

  5. Norway employs a similar three-stage approach: one year in the police academy, one year in field training, and then an additional year in the academy for advanced training.

Norwegian Police University College (NPUC)

To become a student with the Norwegian Police University College so that you can be recruited into the police, you must meet certain requirements. These entry criteria includes;

  • Higher Education Entrance Qualification

          You must have gained your higher education entrance qualification by 1 March to qualify for admission, but if you don’t have you can apply for admission on the basis of your overall academic attainment and work experience.

  •   Norwegian language proficiency

            You must have achieved a minimum of Grade 3 in Norwegian (main variant) at upper secondary school.

  •   Driving licence, Class B

             You must have obtained a Class B driving licence no later than 1 August of the year prior to the year you apply for admission.

  •   Norwegian citizenship

              You must have become a Norwegian citizen no later than 1 March of the year in which you apply for admission.

  •   Clean police record

               You must have a clean police record to be admitted to the NPUC.

  •   Medical requirements

            To be admitted to the NPUC, you must meet certain medical requirements so as to ensure that you are able to complete your training.

  •   Physical tests

            You will have to pass tests in swimming, strength and so many more to test your general fitness.

Can a foreigner join the Norway Police

To join the Norwegian police force as an officer, you will need three years of education (a bachelors degree) at the Norwegian Police Academy. Citizenship is required for admission, in addition to having no police record, completed upper secondary school, and passing physical requirements. For the higher echelons of police, let’s say from about chief superintendent and up, the police academy is no longer a requirement. In reality, you will need a law degree (Norwegian or converted) if you’re not an academy graduate. Usually these positions require a security clearance, though, and depending on level it may require you to be a citizen for a period of time.
